Bolsover district to benefit from £10m Good Food Neighbourhoods scheme

Tuesday 6 Oct 2026

The Bolsover district will be one of 45 areas to benefit from a £10m Government funding boost for projects to improve access to healthy and affordable food.

The Good Food Neighbourhoods funding will help give communities support towards the cost of living crisis.

Bolsover District Council is one of 45 local authorities identified as being in need of the funding.

Each local authority will receive £222,000 to develop solutions that meet local needs, putting decision-making and resources directly in the hands of local leaders who know their communities best.

The Good Food Neighbourhoods funding could support schemes such as community food shops, mobile greengrocers, lunch clubs, community kitchens, and cooking and nutrition programmes, as well as helping local authorities strengthen their capacity to plan for and meet local food needs.

Councillor Jane Yates, leader of Bolsover District Council, said: “We welcome this funding – as I’m sure the families struggling with the cost of living will, too.

“More and more people are having to turn to initiatives like food banks, which is unacceptable in this day and age.

“We have already been supporting our fantastic volunteers across the district who provide services such as community foodbanks, food hubs and various charities working to provide affordable food.

“Now this funding will be used to extend and join up that work, reaching more people to help them eat healthier and improve their overall quality of life.”

This programme has been developed following the work of the Citizen’s Advisory Council, and conversations with civil society organisations, to understand what would work best for local communities.

Alongside government funding, the programme will work with businesses and charities to build on existing community projects, reach more people and bring additional funding into local areas.

Through the Government’s Good Food Cycle, the programme will help communities access healthier food and build a more resilient future.
