Bolsover District Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour and Enforcement Team joined forces with Derbyshire Constabulary and colleagues from North East Derbyshire District Council in a crackdown on suspected environmental crime.
The partner agencies worked together in Tibshelf to ensure that people carrying waste have the correct licences and paperwork to do so.
This initiative aims to reduce environmental crime, including fly-tipping, across the district.
Businesses that produce or transport waste, including scrap metal and garden waste, must have a valid waste carrier's licence issued by the Environment Agency and maintain proper waste transfer documentation.
Anyone found not to have the correct licence could face being issued with a fixed penalty notice, or prosecution.
During the operation, seven vehicles were stopped and the operation resulted in:
• A vehicle defect identified on a vehicle carrying waste
• Two stop searches carried out for drugs
• A traffic offence report issued for a defect on a van
• Two traffic offence reports for overweight loads
• A traffic offence for no seatbelt.
Also, whilst on the operation, police located and arrested a wanted male.
Councillor Clive Moesby, Portfolio Holder for Resources at Bolsover District Council, was present during the successful operation.
He said: “The operation was a fantastic example of partnership working and we will continue to collaborate with our partner agencies to crack down on environmental crime.
“It sends out a clear message to individuals who are involved in such crime to ensure they have the correct licences and secure loads when collecting and transporting waste across our district.
“These steps are taken to disrupt illegal waste activity and fly-tipping, contribute to cleaner communities and also raise awareness.”
