Derbyshire Constabulary is appealing for members of the public who came to the aid of an officer who was assaulted in a Derby street to come forward.
The incident took place in Arbor Close, off Abbey Street, at 2.25pm on 22 October. The female officer, who had been in the area for a separate matter, came across a man who appeared to be lying unconscious in the street.
As she tried to help the man, he became violent and assaulted her.
A number of men came to the officer’s aid and helped secure the suspect until other officers arrived and arrested him. At the time of the force’s appeal, he remained in police custody.
The officer was taken to hospital and has since been discharged.
The force is keen to hear from the people who helped the officer to assist with its enquiries.
Chief Constable Simon Blatchly said: “I first want to thank the members of the public who helped this officer, they did not hesitate and their assistance really is appreciated.
“While officers understand that they may have to put themselves in harm’s way – all this officer was trying to do was help this man, and instead she was seriously assaulted.
“This comes just a few days after another officer suffered a serious injury and reinforces further the risks that officers face each and every day.”
Anyone who can help identify the men who came to the officer’s aid is asked to contact Derbyshire Constabulary using one of the following methods, quoting reference 26*643054:
